I love a good cliche, but a lot of the time they are overdone and impersonal. And this is not the impression you want to leave with your partner on your wedding day. Below are some examples of what you can say instead of the old cliche!
I am Marrying my Best Friend
Ughh insert eye roll. Of course your partner-to-be is your best friend, that's why you are marrying them in the first place. Here's a few alternatives:
Today I am marrying.......
The person who makes me swoon every time they get home from work
The guy who still gives me butterflies 10 years later
The woman who rocked my world and cracked my heart open
My favourite person to watch bad TV shows with
The one who I know will always be there
My partner in absolutely everything
My first and last crush
Happy Wife, Happy Life
This old chestnut. It makes it sound like all the guy has to do is be quiet and make his wife happy and then everything is great.
How about these options:
Everything in my life gets 10 times better when I do it next to you.
Your smile is my favourite thing.
I can’t imagine a happier existence than this one that I get to share with you.
I will work hard every day to make your life just a little bit more joyful.
Let’s make happiness and fulfillment the goal of our marriage.
The greatest happiness I’ve ever known was the moment you said yes to marrying me.
It's all about the Bride
So how many times do you hear people say it's all about the bride - it's her special day. Hang on! There is someone else in this partnership - that's why it is called a marriage. Your wedding day is about the two of you coming together - it's not all about the bride.
How about stop saying a wedding is the bride's day and instead say:
Today we celebrate where we’ve come from and where we’re going.
Today is a celebration of our future.
Our love has brought us both here today.
Today is about bringing together our friends, our families and our love.
Today is the beginning of all of our tomorrows.
Today is a day for both of us.
You Look Beautiful/Handsome
You gotta look great on your wedding day but this cliche is done to death. Everyone is gonna tell you that you look beautiful/handsome on your wedding day, almost to the point that you stop listening. Try to articulate exactly how you are feeling about seeing your partner on your wedding day.
Here are some ideas:
You have taken my breath away and I can’t take my eyes off you.
Beautiful isn’t a strong enough word for how incredible you look today.
I've imagined what you might look like on our wedding day, but I could have never imagined the picture looking this perfect.
I will never forget seeing you for the first time today. This memory will stay with me forever.
You know I am never at a loss for words, but I was truly speechless when I saw you walk towards me
I couldn’t wait to see you today but hell yeah you were worth the wait!
The best way to avoid the old cliches that have been used over and over again at the many weddings you have been to, is to write your own personal vows in your own unique way. Each love story is unique and telling it in your own words is far more meaningful for your partner and your guests. Happy vow writing.
